The beautiful Lake Atitlán

Surrounded by three volcanoes and several hills, the lake is one of the most beautiful and visited places of Guatemala. Around the lake there are several towns where one can appreciate the customs of the Tzutujil and Kaqchikel ethnic groups. Our tour groups stay in Panajachel, the most important town around the lake. In this tourist resort you can find a big variety of Guatemalan handicrafts and other services such as restaurants with food from all over the world.

Quetzaltenango -Xela- and the western highlands

Quetzaltenango (Xela) is the second largest city of Guatemala and is the capital of the departament (county) of the same name. The city is an interesting mixture of a modern city and a rural town with a great influence of the K'iche' lingüistic group. Our program has many students attending school in this city because all universities have branches here. Our tours visit other indigenous towns around Xela, such as Zunil and Almolonga, located in a very fertile volcanic valley famous for its vegetable production.

The central park of Xela, shows the neoclasic building style of the city.

A group chats with some of our students who study in Quetzaltenango.

This colorful church is located in San Andrés Xecul, Totonicapán. This is another example of the religious mixture in Guatemala, where Mayan and Christian beliefs are mixed.

Our visitors are enjoying the relaxing waters of the natural hot springs called Georginas in Zunil, Quetzaltenango.
